In October, 1930, the first issue of ‘Garden Hints’ (later ‘Garden Notes’; later still ’Gardenry’) was sent to members. The first editor was Horace Whiteoak, writing under the pen name of Quercus Alba.
These monthly newsletters became the backbone of the Society. They kept Members informed of upcoming meetings, activities and other gardening-related events in the community. They also contained a wealth of detailed information on best-practices for growing both food and ornamental plants in the area.
We are fortunate that we have a large collection of these newsletters which have been digitized and are available to Members. The collection is not quite complete, having some gaps from the early years, but it is surprisingly comprehensive.
Today, we offer two publications to our Members — Gardenry Express offers timely news of Society activities and events in the wider community. Gardenry is our quarterly, long-form magazine-style publication.
