Mentorship

Are you new to gardening, or new to gardening in Victoria? Are you an experienced gardener who would like to “share what you know”?

Whilst there is a wealth of information available on the internet, it isn’t always easy to find information about gardening here in the greater Victoria area. Within the city of Victoria and, more broadly, in the Saanich Peninsula, there is a range of micro-climates which means that what might work for someone in Oak Bay might not work for someone in James Bay, for example.

In addition, new gardeners often feel shy about asking questions publicly, afraid that they might be judged for their lack of knowledge. In this regard, it’s good to remember that even the most experienced gardener was once a beginner!

Please note that the Mentorship program is available to VHS Members only.

To help address some of these issues the VHS has introduced a mentorship program, called the “Gardeners Connection”, in which new gardeners are paired with more experienced gardeners prepared to offer information and advice.

This is not intended to be a formal “coaching” relationship, rather an informal pairing where help could be sought on a casual basis – it would be up to the participants to determine how it would work in practice.
